In the early 1970s during the Cold War, the head of British Intelligence, Control, resigns after an operation in Budapest, Hungary goes badly wrong. It transpires that Control believed one of four senior figures in the service was in fact a Russian agent – a mole – and the Hungary operation was an attempt to identify which of them it was.
In China, during the Japanese occupation in World War II, a young student and former actress named Wong Chia Chi has agreed to be the central figure in the assassination of a Japanese collaborator, Yee. Using the alias of Mak Tai Tai (Mrs. Mak) and the fictional Mr. Mak, Chia Chi befriends Mr. Yee’s wife, Yee Tai Tai, and eventually seduces her husband in order to kill him. However, she falls in love with him and just before her comrades try to kill him, she warns him. He escapes and has the whole group executed, including Wong Chia Chi.

This film is dark, sick and scary, I assume for the most part it does accurately describe parts of the sex industry and the damaged people who choose to live with it. We see different stories from the sex-industry that have something in common based on an unusual twist. We follow the main characters rather depressing life and their struggle to get something positive out of their situation. The story, which can be a bit confusing at first, clears up in the end with a surprising and moving climax.

Amy is a girl who has just returned from a funeral in Japan. Upon arriving at this “resort”, they are greeted by the loony caretaker, Walter, who is kind enough to reveal the size of his penis to them, after which they go into their cabin and lock the door. Nick has ideas that Amy isn’t warming up to so of course, things are getting uncomfortable. But, this isn’t just ANY resort, it’s one that has a mysterious killer lurking about and busily slaughtering young ladies. He’s armed with all the requisite maniac tools, like a chain saw, etc.

The story is about a team of 3 journalists (Aubrey Plaza, Jake M. Johnson, and Karan Soni) who decide to write a story about a man who is seeking someone to travel with him back in time. He doesn’t say where he’s going or why, but the ad he writes is interesting enough for the story. Besides a wonderful subplot, thats basically the story. Its funny, cute, and above all else brutally honest. Our three journalists are all in someways emotionally damaged or emotionally distant, and watching these characters grow is a wonderful and move beyond their troubles is pure joy. Mark Duplass as Kenneth, the one who wrote the ad, is fantastic. He does such a good job with the character that about halfway through the movie, you begin to question if he really does know how to travel back in time or not. Aubrey Plaza as the one who gets close to him also does a great job, a character worth rooting for and one that by the end may have you holding back a few tears. Karan Soni plays the lovable geek while Jake Johnson has a subplot involving a past lover that is as heart wrenching as it is funny.
