We meet Scarlet as she runs away from a wilderness camp for troubled youth. Her attempt is a failure, and she is brought back to the group of disgruntled teens, who seem to think little of Scarlet. As she hikes the hills of wilderness, we learn that prior to the camp, Scarlet has been living with her dad, a single parent, and his young girlfriend, Scarlet’s former tutor. Feeling not wanted and insignificant, Scarlet started falling in with the wrong crowd. At the advice of Scarlet’s therapist, her dad decided to send her to an elite, fix-your-kid, wilderness camp. While at the camp, Scarlet is haunted by her childhood memories of her parents’ troubled relationship and her mother’s tragic death. To the dismay of her counselors, Scarlet appears to make no effort to get better. A new girl, Dylan, is brought in to join the group. Dylan quickly befriends Scarlet and they immediately form a bond.
