There’s no way that a visionary band like Pink Floyd can be summed up in a conventional greatest-hits collection, but Echoes is just offbeat enough to work. Instead of boring old chronological order, it jumps freely between the psychedelic Syd Barrett era, the prog-rock majesty of the classic lineup and David Gilmour’s last stand. Late-night FM hits sit right next to side-long epics. Most interestingly, new segues link all the songs together, making this a cohesive concept album in its own right.
