HBO, Steven Spielberg, and Tom Hanks deserve a standing ovation for making this epic piece of history. What these servicemen and women went through and dealt with is truly unbelievable. They are truly heroes!

The Pacific is an epic 10-part miniseries that delivers a realistic portrait of WWII’s Pacific Theatre as seen through the intertwined odysseys of three U.S. Marines – Robert Leckie, John Basilone and Eugene Sledge. The extraordinary experiences of these men and their fellow Marines take them from the first clash with the Japanese in the haunted jungles of Guadalcanal, through the impenetrable rain firests of Cape Gloucester, across the blasted coral strongholds of Peleliu, up the black sand terraces of Iwo Jima, through the killing fields of Okinawa, to the triumphant, yet uneasy, return home after V-J Day. The viewer will be immersed in combat through the intimate perspective of this diverse, relatable group of men pushed to the limit in battle both physically and psychologically against a relentless enemy unlike any encountered before.

Part 1: Guadalcanal/ Leckie
Veteran Sergeant John Barsilone ships out soon after Pearl Harbor for Guadalcanal while other young enlistees are sent to boot camp.

Part 2: Basilone
Outmanned and with supplies low, Barsilone and other marines on Guadacanal rally to repel superior Japanese forces.

Part 3: Melbourne
After arduous months in Guadalcanal, exhausted marines are given rest and recreation in Melbourne, where they find the girls friendly and the beer cold.

Part 4: Gloucester/ Pavuvu/Banika
After leaving Melbourne, the weather works against the leathernecks as Lechie falls seriously ill and Sledge gets assigned to New Britain.

Part 5: Peleliu Landing
Basilone’s fame keeps him in the U.S. selling war bonds, Leckie rejoins his company, and Sledge is reunited with Phillips in Pavuvu.

Part 6: Peleliu Airfield
Water is in short supply and the stifling heat takes control on Peleliu as Leckie is wounded and evacuated.

Part 7: Peleliu Hills
Sledge finds the carnage and death of his companions on Peleilu increasingly difficult to bear as Basilone continues his bond drive in the States.

Part 8: Iwo Jima
Frustrated with his bond selling tour, Barsilone goes back to training troupes and after marrying a pretty marine sergeant, leads his men at Iwo Jima.

Part 9: Okinawa
The 1st Marine Division fight a determined Japanese force on Okinawa who prefer death to surrender and are indifferent to the lives of Okinawan civilians.

Part 10: Home
After V-J Day Leckie and Sledge return home and try to readjust to civilian life.
