Set in Victorian-era London, the series follows Detective Inspector Rabbit, a hardened booze-hound who’s seen it all, and his new, hapless, by-the-books partner. While they’re investigating a local murder, the lewd but insightful adoptive daughter of the chief of police joins them, becoming the country’s first female officer. Together, the trio must fight crime while rubbing shoulders with street gangs, crooked politicians, Bulgarian princes, spiritualists, music hall stars and the Elephant Man.

Rabbit’s been chasing bad guys for as long as he can remember, but these days his heart keeps stopping at inopportune moments.

Season 1, Episode 2
Rabbit, Strauss and Mabel are on the case of a mysterious killer who takes the guise of the Brick Man, a mythical figure from London folklore. And Lydia emerges from the shadows with designs on Mabel.

Season 1, Episode 3
Gang warfare is raging in the East End. Wisbech sends Strauss and Mabel undercover, whilst Rabbit finds himself ostracised from the case due to his age.

Season 1, Episode 4
There’s a sniper on the loose. A really bloody good one – he shot two men dead with the same bullet. The attacks appear to be completely random – a church warden in Bow, a solicitor in Clerkenwell. There’s no pattern. No logic. And therefore no way of stopping it.

Season 1, Episode 5
As Flora faces the gallows for a crime she didn’t commit, Rabbit is caught in an armed siege.

Season 1, Episode 6
Things get a whole lot worse for Rabbit when he wakes up with blood all over his hands and a butchered corpse lying opposite him.
